Liberalism and Socialism in this country now pretend to all liberals. But do they? It is perhaps the only ones left are indeed strange to say, the Socialists? Such a statement might seem absurd, laughable. But it is not at all, let me explain that we are talking about.
It is not too difficult to explain liberalism and socialism, as long as you do not investigate the historical evolution and instead describe them for what, time, and now, are these two words moderate political parties and which relate to it.
Both schools of thought regarding the policies Status: how should it be ordered, managed and how it should deal with citizens.
Liberalism requires a state where all are equal before the law, have the same rights and same obligations. What counts most in the category of liberalism is that no citizen may rely on the power to dictate to the rest of the population thus breaking the balance struck by the liberal state also known for its emphasis on equality of citizens before the law, state of law.

Le stesse idee sono alla base del libero mercato, espressione economica liberalism: people left free to produce and buy what they want are able to create a market by low prices and high quality. Free competition between employers in the race to win the favor of buyers creates a virtuous cycle in which products and services can only get better, and the consequences of social welfare growth.
Socialism, understood in its reformist and democratic sense, fits on the basis of liberalism as its completion. Over time, the faults are in fact emerged in the scheme proposed by liberalism.
The rule of law ensures that no citizen may be superior to the other in political power, that is legally able to impose itself by force, but does not eliminate the differences, often heavy, dictated by the imbalance of economic power, the ability to impose on others through their wealth or their control of economic means. All this is summarized in the phrase "the rule of law guarantees formal equality (before the law), but not substantial (an equality of means).
Socialism in Europe is the current thinking of the Prince of who seeks to create a welfare state. The welfare state is a state that combines the features of a rule of law (then liberal) with a series of social policies that aim to provide all citizens the same means and equal opportunity to assert their own merit or at least to lead a dignified life.
equality of means of course does not require an equality of results.
Socialism intervenes to correct those extreme consequences of the "laissez faire" liberal who would lead, and in some cases have led to leave out from education, healthcare, work and essential services people deserving (or in the case of health services and in need) but were not born with the necessary means to access them according to market rules (for example, if the 'education was private, who does not have the means to pay even the minimum economic institutions) and hence will be blocked and unable to cultivate and express their potential (if a person fails to learn never develop skills such as access to a good job and also runs the risk of not finding even one free work requirements, perhaps because it competes with all other poor non-educated).
Socialism has as its central point to create mechanisms for which no citizen is left to die in poverty and all can be provided with basic means necessary to compete in competition with other citizens in employment and life.

But because the welfare state can be implemented need to build up a solid liberal state. For this we can say that in a country where those who waves the flag of liberalism systematically acts against the free market, where those who should defend the credit market does nothing to revive small-scale entrepreneurs aiutando sempre i soliti nomi, dove chi dovrebbe assicurare la neutralità dello Stato di fronte alle scelte di vita dei cittadini si intromette costantemente nella sfera più private ed intime del cittadino invadendone la coscienza e la disponibilità del proprio corpo e dei propri beni, dove chi invoca la massima giustizia continua a tenere il sistema giudiziario alla catena senza risolverne i molteplici problemi, i Socialisti sembrano essere gli unici Liberali rimasti, desiderosi di uno Stato di diritto degno di questo nome e di un libero mercato vero e non artefatto, abitato da cittadini liberi di gestire se stessi senza costrizioni che non siano dettate dal buon senso.
Il fatto che ormai siano i Socialisti a hold this witness, that the rule of law, should be given to reflect, in addition to being an inspiration for many useful starting point for the healthy self-criticism.
